And, actually, that would have been painless had I fsck’ed my disks a little more frequently. Gone also are the days where I had to backdoor mounting disks by dropping into recovery mode and mounting the network before continuing with the boot.

So, remember to fsck now and again. Also, get yourself some neovim. Seriously. It’s way faster and way less crufty.
