Twatter

Can I just say that Twitter represents everything that is wrong with U.S. politics? There is no nuance. Chronology and threading are exceptionally difficult. Individual tweets are consumed without scepticism. The noun ‘tweet’. The shambolic nature of the company behind the platform.

I’ve never really understood the platform’s popularity. I have an account, well two actually, but I engage with them so infrequently. They’re basically there so I can dip my toe into whatever is going on when it spills over into the real world. The sad part about that, though, is that by the time a particular hashtag, say today’s #TwitterLockOut, comes up on my radar it’s sullied by the counter usage. So I go to enjoy some schadenfreude but I end up wading through all of the folks also enjoying the schadenfreude.

So, basically, Twitter posts should be called twits. They should use as many characters as are required to adequately express a thought and all of its nuance. People who consume Twitter without critical thinking should be called twats. And so, really, Twitter should be called Twatter.
